SUPP Youth disagrees that ‘Sarawak For Sarawakians’ slogan seditious
SIBU: SUPP Bukit Assek Branch Youth chief Joseph Chieng disagrees that the slogan “Sarawak For Sarawakians” is fanning the sentiment of the nation.
In a press statement yesterday, he said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had claimed that chanting the slogans of ‘Sabah for Sabahans’ and ‘Sarawak for Sarawakians’ was seditious in nature.
Chieng disagreed and said there was nothing wrong with such chanting, adding this was only the love of Sarawakians for their land.
He said the people here were united and they love their homeland.
“Sarawakians treasure their harmony, love peace and they stand together to fight off religious and racial extremism.”
He said Ahmad Zahid should instead go after those stirring religious and racial extremism, and not against the peace-loving Sarawakians.
He cited examples of those who had incited extremism, like in the paint brush issue alleging brushes were made with pig’s hair, the statement about Chinese and Indians as ‘pendantang’ and the controversy over laundry shops for Muslims.
He said Ahmad Zahid should go after those inciting racism to stir unrest.
He said the people in Sarawak were just asking for what belonged to them, as was stated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963. He hoped the matter would soon be resolved amicably between Sarawak and the federal government.
