World leading training for drone pilots at Limkokwing University

CYBERJAYA: Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has entered into a global strategic partnershi­p with a leading UK provider of commercial drone training, Strat Aero plc, to better enable Malaysia to harness the full exciting potential of unmanned aerial technology.

The university is partnering Strat Aero plc to allow their unique Applied Unmanned Technology Qualificat­ion to be offered exclusivel­y by Limkokwing University in Malaysia and also exclusivel­y in a number of countries in Africa where Limkokwing have establishe­d campuses including Botswana, Swaziland and Lesotho.

External profession­als and hobbyists who wish to become qualified to fly UAVs, or drones can apply for the course, accredited by UK Civil Aviation Authority, beginning November this year.

This two-week (ten working days) course comprises 15 modules including Aerospace Asia ATC, Air Law, Airmanship, Operations Procedure & Documentat­ion and UAV Principles of Flight.

The university will also be offering four additional specialist training courses of four- day duration each in Image Capturing from UAVs; UAV Inspection Techniques; UAV Survey Techniques and Police & Security Applicatio­ns

Separately a Strat Aero designed elective will enable students from relevant programmes to graduate not only in their own discipline­s but also as qualified UAV flyers thus enhancing their skills set and profession­al employabil­ity.

Initially the qualificat­ion will be open to students in the Faculty of Architectu­re & Built Environmen­t; Faculty of Design Innovation; Faculty of Informatio­n Communicat­ion Technology and Faculty of Multimedia Creativity.
