SIBU: Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Service ( Cuepacs) Sarawak fully supports the government’s call for special double salary increment before 2020.

According to Cuepacs Sarawak president Ahmad Malie, the call made by the congress’ national president Datuk Azih Muda is a timely one, in view of the anticipated increase in cost of living.

We support the call by the Cuepacs national president, which is a timely one because most state governments can afford to give special financial assistance exceeding those announced by the federal government. Ahmad Malie, Cuepacs Sarawak president

“We support the call by the Cuepacs national president, which is a timely one because most state governments can afford to give special financial assistance exceeding those announced by the federal government,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ahmad said it is only appropriate for the federal government to become an example for the state governments, and also as a ref lection to other foreign governments that Malaysia’s economy is strong as what has been said by our government.”

Recently, Azih suggested that the government should consider the proposal to help reduce the burden of more than 1.6 million civil servants struggling with the rapid rise in cost of living, which is expected to become worse next year.

Azih also said although the government was giving some aid to be paid beginning January, this would not ease the burden of civil servants in the long term.

As such, Azih said Cuepacs was proposing for the government to give every civil servant an advanced annual salary increment, while maintaining it on conclusion of a year of service.

On this, Ahmad commented: “By giving special double salary increment before 2020, it would prove that the financial and economic position of our country is strong as what has been mentioned by the government.”
