Voluntary social worker brings early Christmas cheer to Home of Peace

-

KUCHING: Home of Peace at Jalan Landeh near here recently received early Christmas cheer after voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw came to visit, bringing along with him goodies purchased by a group of Good Samaritans for the residents.

The items comprising bags of rice and other daily necessities are meant to reduce the expenditure borne by the home, especially in the days approaching Christmas.

When met yesterday, Lim said the Home of Peace, which was set up by the Catholic Welfare Services Council Sarawak (CWS), currently houses 25 elderly individuals and employs 17 staff members.

“I want to thank the Good Samaritans for responding to my request to assist Home of Peace. Though they might not be of the same race and religion, this did not stop them from contributing as a way of giving back to society,” said Lim.

He singled out a number of donors – Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, Jee Han Kong from Mile 21 Kuching- Serian Road, one Mr Sim and his family from Kota Samarahan, and Sandi Bunya from Matang – for their generous contributions.

On another matter, Lim said poor families needing coffins for the funeral of a departed family member could contact him at 082- 248153 / 016- 8070388 for assistance.

He explained that these coffins are purchased using cash donations from Good Samaritans and placed at a coffin shop here.

So far, 15 coffins have been delivered to places as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman, including to Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian in July and a village in Jalan Puncak Borneo last month.

“The coffins will be delivered to the houses and villages of the recipients upon request,” he said.
