Andrew Wong: RS1 a five-year devt plan for both rural and urban areas of Sibu
SIBU: Rancangan Sibu 1 ( RS1) is a five-year development plan for both the rural and urban areas here. RS1 chairman Datuk Andrew Wong said he had to make the clarification because many people still misunderstood its objectives and thought that it was a development plan merely for Sibu town.
“Do not misunderstand it. There are many misunderstandings about it. Moreover, there were people who questioned me if there was any Sibu Rural Plan.
“This is not Sibu town plan. It is a plan for overall Sibu – that is for both rural and urban areas,” he said in his address at a programme with the community at Tanjung Berkakap, Rumah Joseph Jarrau here on Friday night.
T em eng gong Stanley Geramong, RS1 deputy chairman Andrew Shilling, Pemanca James Semilan, Penghulu Jeffery Sut, Penghulu Evelyn Holly Sebom and United People’s Party ( UPP) potential candidate for the Lanang parliamentary seat, Andrew Ting, were among those present.
Wong, who is also UPP’s potential candidate for the Sibu parliamentary seat, promised to undertake the five-year plan as best as possible if given the opportunity to become the candidate for Sibu in the coming general election.
“I also promise that in RS1, regardless of whether you are from UPP, SUPP, PBB, PRS, PDP or DAP, you all will not be sidelined because you are ‘anak Sarawak’ and ‘anak Sibu’. This is the current government’s responsibility. We should not sideline any quarters,” Wong, who is also the chairman of UPP Community Service Board Sibu, pointed out.
Meanwhile, Shilling in his speech said the people’s representative for Bawang Assan, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh had, over the past three years, approved an allocation of RM2 million to implement various development projects for areas in Sungai Tebelian, Tanjung Bekakap, Sungai Apong and Sungai Melanggan.
“From Sungai Tebelian up to Sungai Melanggan, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh had approved development projects totalling RM2 million, from 2015 to this year.
“As such the residents are now able to enjoy good roads, water and electricity supply as well as fast communication system,” he said, adding that the exception is Rumah Nuing and Rumah Changkul in Sungai Tebelian, which has yet to enjoy clean water supply.
Shilling also stated that they would do their very best to upgrade the drainage from Rumah Melina, Sungai Apong to Rumah Unjah, Sungai Melanggan to overcome flash flooding on the road.
“Datuk Andrew Wong in the meetings used to stress on upgrading the road drainage so as to drain out the water effectively,” Shilling added.
