Seven nabbed for illegal lottery, online gambling activities

KUCHING: Seven individual­s were apprehende­d by police during operations targeting illegal gambling activities in the city on Saturday.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said five suspects were nabbed around 2.30pm at an eatery along Jalan Tun Razak for involvemen­t in online gambling.

“Two of those arrested were reload service providers for the online gambling activity, while the other three were customers engaged in the activity.

“The raiding party seized mobile phones, tablets, modem and cash amounting to RM97.00 from the suspects, who will be remanded for further investigat­ion under section 4B(a) of the Common

On the subsequent operations, Abang Ahmad said police raided a premises along Jalan Ang Cheng Ho around 3.55pm and arrested of two women for alleged involvemen­t in illegal lottery activities.

“Betting slips, mobile phones, stationeri­es, calculator­s, rubber stamps and cash amounting to RM86 were seized from the suspects,” he said.

The women will be investigat­ed under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gamming House ACT 1953, he added.
