Sibu Hospital Blood Bank extends operating hours

-

SIBU: The Blood Bank of Sibu Hospital will be extending its operating hours until 7.00pm (including lunch hour) from today till Dec 22.

This is to cater for blood donors who are unable to donate during office hours, said its assistant information officer Lily Sinta.

“On Christmas Eve ( Dec 24) - the Blood Bank will also be opening a counter at Delta Mall from 9: 30am until 2pm to receive blood donation,” she said.

Lily added that the blood bank is appealing to the public to donate blood to help ensure enough stock during the coming festive season and long holidays.

“Our stock for all blood types is running low now due to less donors and also high usage.

“We also need to ensure we have enough blood to supply to our Central Region periphery hospitals ( Sarikei, Kanowit, Mukah, Daro, Kapit, and Saratok).”

The long holiday means many will be going on holidays and/or ‘balik kampung’, normally away from Sibu.

“From our experience, it is difficult to get blood donors once the holidays start as most people will be very busy with the Christmas and New Year celebration and/or away outstation on holidays,” she added.

Meanwhile, Lily said they collected 34 pints of blood during a donation drive at Pulau Li Hua here yesterday.
