Kapit Lions Club praised for its good deeds
KAPIT: Kapit Lions Club has been hailed as one of the most active NGOs in town.
Speaking as a guest of honour at the club’s four-in- one event at a restaurant here recently, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat said the club was always on its toes organising activities to lend a helping hand to those in dire need especially during natural disasters like flash floods and fire breakouts to offer food assistance to the victims.
As an example, he said during the recent landslide at Rumah Gawan in Lepong Baleh, the Lions Club together with the Malaysian Red Crescent and SUPP Kapit branch were at the scene to offer food aid.
He called on other NGOs to follow the good deeds of the Lions Club by always being proactive in reaching out to the community.
Because you are committed to serve voluntarily to promote a caring society, I responded positively whenever you requested for funds, knowing very well that you use the allocation meaningfully.
He recalled that another community- oriented project undertaken by Kapit Lions Club earlier this year was levelling and cementing the car park behind the nursing home of Kapit Hospital, which actually created more car parks for the hospital staff.
“Because you are committed to serve voluntarily to promote a caring society, I responded positively whenever you requested for funds, knowing very well that you use the allocation meaningfully.
“Your community services are complementing the government’s effort to help the people. As people’s elected representative, I thank you for the good deed,” said Jamit.
He also commended members of the Lions Club for being active in other NGOs.
Meanwhile, organising chairman Anthony Jalin Manggie said the 4-in-1 event was to celebrate the Lions’ Family Day, the birthdays of those born in second half of 2017, Christmas and usher the New Year 2018.
Lions Club Kapit president Ting Bee Eng, members Dr Sia Tih Kong, David Ling, Stanley Ling, Moonly Tiang, Evelyn Biju, Kapitan Yap Hui Le, Sia Leh Ching, Wong Kah Ung, Sng Geok Yien, Evelyn Biju and Cr Yii Si Geok were among those attending the event.
