Mas Gading youths encouraged to become entrepreneurs

-

BAU: Youths in Mas Gading should consider embracing entrepreneurship as a career choice.

This is because there is a lot of potential in entrepreneurship, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Datuk Anthony Nogeh said.

Besides that, the government had been encouraging youths to engage in entrepreneurship as most countries were now moving from managerial to entrepreneurial economies, he said when officiating at the closing of the Young Entrepreneurs Programme at the Civic Centre here yesterday.

He said entrepreneurs are not job seekers but rather job creators, creating products and services.

“You should start young by learning how to create and sell small products and services, which are the laboratories of experience.

“You can also start from family-managed businesses before you eventually go farther into franchisees or corporate entrepreneurship,” he told the youths attending the

programme.

Nogeh pointed out that the convergence of globalisation, technological innovations and knowledge- based economy had in fact led to growing interest in entrepreneurship – willingness to take risks to develop and manage a business venture in a competitive global marketplace that is evolving.

He noted that even in Malaysia, the presence of entrepreneurs has been prevalent in recent years.

“Youth entrepreneurship is gaining popularity and now plays an integral role in ensuring sustainable economic growth as it has the potential to fuel innovation, create jobs, increase productivity and competitiveness.

“It is my hope to see youths in Mas Gading, especially participants in this workshop here today, be entrepreneurs one day and be catalysts of change and progress,” he said.

He believed that each youth is unique as he or she brings different sets of skill, strengths and passions to the table.

He said all one has to do is to create self- awareness and discover his or her passion in any undertaking.

He said as long as he is in the government, he would continue to focus on the development of young entrepreneurs in his constituency as he considers it a key element in generating economic growth.

About 200 participants from various youth clubs and associations in the parliamentary constituency of Mas Gading and state constituency of Serembu took part in the programme initiated by Nogeh himself.

Also present at the ceremony was Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
