Be well-versed in govt policies, devt programmes, community leaders told

KAPIT: Community leaders here are advised to be well-versed in government policies and developmen­t programmes to be able to explain the same to their people.

Speaking at a gathering to celebrate the coming Christmas and New Year organised by Kapit Division Dayak Community Leaders Associatio­n in collaborat­ion with Kapit District Office here recently, Pelagus assemblyma­n Wilson Nyabong Ijang said they ought to play their roles effectivel­y.

“That is why it’s important to adopt a learning attitude. Make every effort to attend activities organised by the District Office to keep abreast with the current issues. If you don’t know, ask others or approach the officer at the District Office to keep yourself informed,” advised Nyabong.

He reminded that in this era of digital economy, community leaders are the ‘ link and bridge’ between the government and the people.

“Hence, you must be able to master the basic skills of ICT in order to run your tasks effectivel­y,” he said.

Earlier in the day, 220 community leaders comprising Temenggong, Pemanca, Penghulu, Ketua Kampung, Kapitan and Tuai Rumah attended a leadership course for community leaders organised by Kapit District Office at Kapit District Office.

Commenting on the gathering, Nyabong said it was a good platform to gather the community leaders together to interact and share informatio­n and knowledge.

Among the some 200 people attending the gathering were Kapit district officer Elvis Didit and administra­tive officers Anyie Awing, Wan Mohd Shukri and Robert Anyaw.
