BEM to host joint Christmas service at Ecumenical Centre

KUCHING: The Associatio­n of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) will hold a joint ‘Christmas Service 2017’ at the Christian Ecumenical Centre along Jalan Stampin here tomorrow, commencing at 7.30pm.

Borneo Evangelica­l Mission ( BEM) is the host church for this year’s event, with the theme ‘Jesus Our Eternal Hope’, and will also lead the praise and worship.

ACS secretary- general Elder Ambrose Linang said the service would hold the recitation of the Holy Scriptures in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, Bidayuh and Iban.

He added that there would be prayers of reconcilia­tion, peace in the world and nation, kings and leaders; prayers for the poor, destitute, refugees and migrants; and prayers for Christian unity.

All heads of churches are expected to attend the service, including Christian members of state and federal government­s, heads of department­s as well as community leaders.

“As usual, representa­tives of interfaith groups such as Buddhist, Hindu, Bahai and Sikh, who have attended our functions in the past, have also been invited,” he said in a press conference at the ACS office yesterday.

He stressed that ACS would always strive to strengthen friendship and brotherhoo­d among all Sarawakian­s through its many activities across the state, believing that unity and social cohesivene­ss are the pillar of economic progress and developmen­t.

He commended the huge turnout of Christians and non- Christians at Christmas parades held recently in Kuching, Miri, Serian, Sibu, Sarikei, Bintangor, Bintulu, Limbang, Sri Aman, Kapit, and other divisional towns.

He also thanked Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas for attending and flagging- off the Miri Christmas Parade last week, and also for his financial pledge towards a similar event next year.

Present at the conference were organising committee chairman Harry Pudun and secterary Ricky Agan.
