MIRI: An elderly single mother and her bedridden son received the much-needed help and long-term support from Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, who approved immediate aid for them during a visit to their residence recently.

Lee Ah Lan, 61, has been caring for her son Loh Suan Keng, 38, who is bedridden after being struck down by stroke and other ailments.

The elderly woman has to clean him, change his diapers, clothes and soiled beddings, as wel as shower and feed him.

The daily tasks have become too overwhelming as she is now suffering from eyesight problems.

Ting made a personal visit to Lee’s house after their plight was brought to his attention by Miri Agape Welfare Society, which has been helping the family of two.

The society’s chairwoman Bong Hui Lian found Ting’s visit on such short notice ‘heart-warming’.

“We are glad that the woman and her son get the attention from Datuk Sebastian Ting (as well as from) the Piasau SUPP Women and Youth wings.

“We are also happy to hear that Datuk and his team have promised to give a washing machine and a specially-built bed (to Lee).”

condition.

Bong said the bed would be similar to the type used in hospital where the position of the patient could be adjusted, from sleeping to sitting position.

“This will enable easier cleaning and changing of diapers, facilitate feeding and prevent bedsores,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ting assured all that he and the rest of SUPP leaders would respond to urgent needs as promptly as possible.

“We will do our best to help them, and provide them with the material assistance and morale support. After this, follow- up visits by our party members will see to it that they are doing well,” Ting said, adding that he was happy with Miri Agape Welfare Society for reaching out to those in need.

The society is a registered charity body run by Bong and her group of volunteers to help children and adults afflicted by poverty, physical disabilities, family and emotional problems. They rely on public donations to operate.
