Supermarket and church host a pre-Christmas gathering last Friday
KOTA SAMARAHAN: A preChristmas gathering was hosted by St Francis Anglican Church Kota Samarahan and Farley Supermarket Kota Samarahan here on Friday (Dec 22).
According to the organisers, it was the second time the supermarket and the church collaborated in hosting the event held at the stage of Farley Supermarket Kota Samarahan.
The event kicked off with a procession carrying banners from St Francis’ Church to the supermarket’s stage.
Among those present at the event was Kota Samarahan Council chairman Dato Peter Minos who wished everyone present a Merry Christmas.
“We should keep the tradition of celebrating Christmas alive in any way we can in Sarawak. Christmas is a time for us to be happy and spend time with loved ones,” he added.
St Francis Church priest-incharge Rev Dennis Gimang who also spoke during the event commented that there nothing more beautiful than to see the world as a peaceful place to live in.
Gimang said Christians should continue to be tolerant and avoid religious extremism at all times.
“How can we live in peace if we do not tolerate others? We must find ways to live with others, especially in a multi-racial and multi-religious country like Malaysia,” Gimang said.
The crowd was entertained with singing and other performances besides participating in a quiz for the event hosts to interact with the people.
An estimated crowd of around 600 from all races gathered at the compound of Farley Supermarket for the event that day.
Also present were Minos’ wife Datin Emy Minos, Farley Supermarket general manager Eiseng Lau, St Francis Church assistant priest Rev Moses Jakir and community leaders.
