Stroke patient receives rations paid for by kind souls

-

KUCHING: Stroke patient Tan Ah Lek, 68, received donations from a group of Good Samaritans, courtesy of voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw.

Lim delivered the donated rice and other food items to Tan’s rented home in Sungai Moyan near here on Friday. He has made the delivery to Tan’s house more than 10 times this year.

“I have experienced hardship and poverty, and I understand Tan’s predicament. I thank all the donors who helped Tan as a way of giving back to society,” Lim said.

He said the small income earned by Tan’s wife was barely enough to pay the house rent of RM300 per month. Their sons helped a bit despite having families of their own and earning unstable incomes as lorry driver and wireman.

He singled out Fook Lai Construction in MJC Batu Kawa, a Madam Sim and family from Ellis Road, and Sandi Bunya and a Mr Hii and family from Matang for their generous donations.

On another matter, Lim said he had received cash for buying coffins for poor families from a group of Good Samaritans.

“There’s a Chinese belief that buying a coffin will bring reversal of bad fortune. This act of buying coffins for others can ease the burden of the poor and needy,” Lim said.

Poor families facing difficulties during bereavement can contact Lim at 082-248153 or 0168070388 for the coffins to be delivered to them.

“So far, 15 coffins have been delivered to places as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman,” Lim said.
