ITEM students create easy way to master Arabic
BESUT: Five students of the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (ITEM) Sultan Mizan Campus, here, have developed a method of mastering the Arabic language by combining the traditional methods and digital technology.
The method, called ‘Semun Flower’, was created within a month by Norazman Ahmat Syafri together with Muhammad Ikhwan Mohd Amin, Muhammad Aizuddin Mingu, Nurul Nazihah Jamilkhair and Medina Mohd Noor.
They have also been given the opportunity to present the method at the University of Darussalam, Brunei at the end of January next year.
The 23-year-old Norazman, who led the group of students, said the ‘Semun Flower’ had beaten the creations of 46 other participants from Iran, Jordan, Egypt and Japan in boosting Arabic language learning.
“This creation can overcome anxiety in learning the basic hijaiyyah alphabet in Arabic. Latest, on Monday, we were awarded the gold medal in conjunction with the World Arabic Language Day celebration held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
“Reading in Arabic requires the use of the ‘talaqqi’ system that has been in use since the time of the Prophet and his companions, which requires the guidance of teachers in the reading evaluation process. The ‘Semun Flower’ method focuses on how a letter is enunciated. ‘Semun Flower’ is the abbreviation of open, agape (mouth), smile and pout,” he explained.
The team of final-year students is grateful to uncover this method which will aid mastery of the Arabic language in line with 21st century pedagogy. — Bernama
