Bera Umno fetes 10 wedding couples
BERA: Faizuddin Mohamed and Intan Izzura Hamdan intended to get married next year, but they were fated to tie the knot earlier.
Intan Izzura, 21, said both of them worked at a fast food restaurant and were saving money to get married, when one of their friends distributed a wedding brochure on a multiple wedding programme organised by the Bera Umno Division.
She said she immediately informed Faizuddin about the matter and were grateful that both families supported their intention to be part of the 2017 Bera Parliamentary Mega ‘King For A Day’ ceremony organised by the Bera Umno Division.
“I was pleasantly surprised when asked to pay only RM2,000 (for our participation) because of the experiences of friends and relatives who had to fork out at least RM10,000 for a wedding.
“I think this is our luck because the money saved so far, despite not reaching RM10,000, is enough for us to start a new life,” she said when met at the event at Kompleks Rakan Muda Bera here yesterday.
Intan Izzura said her special day was brightened by the presence of Bera MP Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, who would have found it difficult to fulfil her invitation if it was held at her family’s home.
She said her wedding day would be her most beautiful memory as she herself did not expect to be seated in a luxury vehicle to the complex where the event was held, besides being celebrated by nearly 5,000 guests.
“All the brides got ready in the same room, although we did not know each other before, we were so friendly with one another and exchanged ideas about how to reduce our nervousness before the matrimonial ceremony (akad nikah) at the Darul Fikri Mosque,” she said.
Meanwhile, Bera Division Puteri Umno chief Salmiah Abdul Rahman said the event, which was held for the first time, was spurred by the initiative to help couples from the Bera Parliamentary constituency to get married.
She said the division received sponsorship for wedding garments, dais and make-up so that all 10 couples could enjoy a happy moment of being dubbed kings for a day albeit at a minimal fee. — Bernama
