ATM Polyclinic to be built in Sungai Petani — Mohd Johari

-

SUNGAI PETANI: A Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Polyclinic is expected to be built here through the 2018 Budget allocation in order to provide healthcare facilities to ATM personnel and veterans from surrounding areas.

Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum said the government planned to build six polyclinics, with one of them being built at Penrissen Camp in Kuching, Sarawak and for the northern region, it was likely to be built here, while suitable locations were being identified for the rest.

“The setting up of polyclinics is aimed at safeguarding the welfare and well-being of personnel and veterans of the armed forces, especially in obtaining medical treatment... as there is a military camp here and no ATM Hospital nearby, so a polyclinic may be built in Sungai Petani,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after the awarding of Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) to Kedah, Perlis and Penang ATM veterans here yesterday.

On Oct 13, Mohd Johari was quoted as saying that the Defence Ministry would build six special polyclinics for ATM personnel and veterans who were still serving nationwide to ensure that their welfare was always looked after.

He was quoted as saying that the decision to build the polyclinic was the result of a meeting with 70 members of the ATM Veterans’ Association which emphasised that the welfare and health of former personnel should be given government attention.

Mohd Johari, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kubang Pasu, said there were 6,000 ATM veterans in the Sungai Petani and Merbok parliamentary constituencies who will benefit from the existence of the polyclinic.

Earlier, Mohd Johari presented the medals to 256 recipients. — Bernama
