LIMBANG: Limbang Football Association (LFA) treasurer Frederick Lalung was appointed its acting deputy president at a meeting held here yesterday.

LFA president Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, who is also Assistant Minister of Agriculture, announced that Frederick is replacing Alidin Tawar who passed away last month.

Abdul Rahman also took the opportunity to pay a tribute to Alidin who had held the post since 2010.

“Coupled with Alidin’s leadership in LFA, we have been able to restore the glory of Limbang football by continuously holding a league.

“To date, Limbang is listed top four best teams in Sarawak. We still feel the loss of him as he played a key role in the development of football in Limbang,” he said.

In memory of Alidin’s contributions, he added, LFA has established the Alidin Tawar Cup for the recent Youth League.

Dr Abdul Rahman disclosed that starting January next year, the Premier League, Super League, FA Cup, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Cup, Veteran League and Youth League will be held on schedule besides plans for a futsal league.

Meanwhile, he expressed pride that Limbang’s Mohd Yusry Haqiz Idris was selected in the Million Dolllar Feet (MDF) programme under a scholarship of RM500,000 from the Brooke House Football College Academy (BHFCA).

“LFA made every effort to help ensure that the additional RM30,000 required by Mohd Yusry was successfully collected.

“To date, Mohd Yusry received funding of RM10,000 from FAS, RM5,000 from Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, RM5,000 from the State Government through the Bukit Kota Community Service Centre and RM10,000 from LFA,” he revealed.

He hoped Mohd Yusry will make full use of the golden opportunity to becoming a world famous footballer in future.
