Properties worth RM3.2m saved from fire this year

SIBU: The Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Sibu station saved over RM3.2 million worth of properties from going up in smoke, while properties worth RM684,650 were razed this year.

The station chief Abdul Mutalif Jaafar disclosed that a total of 329 emergency calls were received throughout the year, of which, 129 were for fire outbreaks and 200 – special services.

He added that there were 18 cases of building fires, vehicle fires ( seven), machine fires ( one), equipment fires (nine), gas (three), forest fires (three), bush fires ( 32), stalls ( one) and others – 53.

“The success of organisati­on can never be attained without proper planning and the hard work of all officers.

“Members who are skilled and knowledgea­ble enable tasks to be implemente­d effectivel­y and result in the department’s name being upheld in the high esteem,” Abdul Mutalif said at the station’s appreciati­on night on Saturday.

He urged his officers to upgrade their skills in line with the current developmen­t and increased risks.

Abdul Mutalif will be posted to the Padungan fire station in Kuching next year. On the event, he said it is held annually to appreciate the contributi­on and sacrifices of the firemen at Sibu station. At the event, he presented prizes and certificat­es to excellent officers and community fire fighters. Also present was Bomba zone 4 deputy chief Rafie Safar.
