MCC to increase frequency of Meet-the-People Session

-

MIRI: The Miri City Council ( MCC) plans to increase the frequency of its Meet-the-People Session next year.

Deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad said such a commitment is needed to further enhance direct communication between MCC and the people.

“Instead of asking people to come to us to request for our city services or to lodge complaints, it would be better for the council to go to the ground frequently in order to get direct feedbacks from the people at the ground,” he told the media after the council’s last meet-the-people session for 2017 at a commercial centre in Luak yesterday.

The people, he believed, would also get a clear picture on the various city services provided by the council as all representatives from the departments will man the counter to entertain the people’s requests and complaints.

Any issue which is beyond the council’s jurisdiction, he added, would be forwarded to relevant government departments or agencies.

“The key index performance ( KPI) that we have set for Meetthe-People Session this year has exceeded our target of above 12 per cent. With the positive response from the people, we have even conducted the session for twice a month in the last three months compared to only one session a month before,” he revealed.

According to him, the council received a total of 20 requests from the people on various city services at the latest session.

Most of the requests were filed under the engineering department pertaining to such matters as grass cutting, maintenance of drains, maintenance of roads or road bumps, traffic light and car parking for disabled people.

There were also two requests for fogging, three for tree trimming or cutting, two on parking services and one on road construction at a residential area in Luak.
