Mayor sees great potential in proposed collaboration between Kuching, Kunming

-

KUCHING: Kuching South Mayor Datuk James Chan has expressed his hope for a collaboration between the state capital and Kunming in China, especially on the possibility of having a direct flight connecting these two cities.

According to him, he had discussed this with Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and in this regard, he hoped that there would be good news soon.

Chan said this when receiving a courtesy call paid by Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) vice-president Prof Yang Bin at his office in Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) building yesterday.

KUST recently signed a memorandum of understanding with University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) on educational collaboration in terms of students and exchange, as well as works on and development of academic papers, and also research and development in Chinese medicine.

Several representatives of Sichuan Commerce Development Association ( SCDA) were also present at the courtesy call, where the visiting delegates expressed their hope for Chan to visit Sichuan and Kunming and explore possible collaborations from there.

The KUST delegates were later brought for a visit to Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and Friendship Park here.

Yang’s visit first to Sibu and later Kuching, was received by Minister of International Trade and E- Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.
