Families grateful for houses repaired under urban poverty eradication plan

KUCHING: Families whose homes were repaired under the Urban Poverty Eradication Programme have Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to thank for.

As one of the implementing agencies of the programme, MPP has helped repair 23 houses across its area of jurisdiction this year.

Kiplie Aji and his wife Kedong Abu, whowere amongtherecipients of this housing assistance, were happy to have a proper place to call home, and also thankful for having a government that cares for the people, especially the poor.

“We have three children and although I am able to work, I am also classified as having disability. We’re simply unable to repair our house because of our limited income,” added Kiplie.

Kedong disclosed that she applied for house repairs under the Urban Poverty Eradication Programme in July this year – their house underwent repairs in November.

Kiplie and his family received a visit from MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang yesterday during the simple handover ceremony held at Kiplie’s house in Taman Desa Wira, Batu Kawa.

The families of Jelia Unya and Jong Kiew Moi, who also had houses repaired by MPP, were present at the event.

In his remarks, Lo commented that poor families whose houses were repaired under the programme must have their status confirmed and registered under the national poverty data bank, eKasih, via their respective local district office.
