Rep calls for concrete action on state’s autonomy

-

KUCHING: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong has called for concrete action on Sarawak’s autonomy.

Yong pointed out Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had dispatched a legal team to London to gather documents relating to the formation of Malaysia.

“He (Abang Johari) claimed to have the complete set of documents but until today there is no disclosure of any. We Sarawakians are still kept in the dark of what they have obtained from the London trip,” she told a press conference here yesterday.

She questioned why the state government had to submit the documents acquired from London to the federal government.

“It shows that whatever Abang Jo’s team has gotten in London is incomplete. Either that or it is just a show for political propaganda,” she claimed.

Yong cited how the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) had unanimously adopted a resolution in 2014 to request the federal government increase oil and gas royalties to Sarawak from 5 to 20 per cent, which has yet to be achieved.

“What they are good at is shouting emptily, saying that the Prime Minister ( Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) is willing to return, without saying when and how. What are the things that they are willing to return?” she asked.

“There is no timeframe and they don’t tell us what they want to return to us. Semua wayang kulit (all shadow play). They are all the actors,” Yong claimed.

Also present at the press conference was Dr Kelvin Yii – special assistant to Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament Chong Chieng Jen.
