-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production rose by 4.3 per cent, year-on-year, to 108.3 in November 2017 compared to the same month last year.

However, it was 0.4 of a point lower, compared with the 4.7 per cent growth recorded in October 2017.

In a statement yesterday, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM) said the mining index recorded the highest increase at 30.7 per cent, followed by manufacturing (2.8 per cent), electricity and gas supply (0.5 per cent) and water supply (0.2 per cent).

Meanwhile, the index for agriculture, forestry and fishing decreased 1.8 per cent.

On a month-to-month basis, the PPI for local production increased by 0.7 per cent in November 2017 driven by three sectors, namely mining (+4.6 per cent), manufacturing (+0.4 per cent) and electricity & gas supply (+0.2 per cent).

However, the index for both agriculture, forestry & fishing and water supply registered a decrease of 0.3 per cent.

DoSM said the PPI for local production by stage of processing (SOP) moved up 0.7 per cent in November 2017 compared to the previous month, due to increases in the indices for crude materials for further processing (+3.2 per cent) and finished goods (+0.1 per cent).

On the other hand, intermediate materials, supplies and components remained unchanged.

As compared with the same month a year ago, the PPI for local production by SOP for November 2017 increased 4.3 per cent.

The increases were fuelled by the index for crude materials for further processing (+13.6 per cent), Intermediate materials, supplies and components (+2.8 per cent) and finished goods (+0.3 per cent). — Bernama
