KUCHING: The drainage project at Lorong Damar 1 in Kampung Rampangi near here is progressing well.

The current stage of works is at 60 per cent and should reach completion by next February.

According to Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, this project is aimed at solving the flash flood problem that has been affecting local residents.

The Santubong MP also said the RM500,000 development under Phase 1 would comprise a 490m concrete drain with 25 crossovers.

“Kampung Rampangi spans along a length of 9,000m. As an estimate, there should be another 18 phases if we need to fully convert the present drainage into a concrete one,” he told reporters during a site visit yesterday.

Moreover, Wan Junaidi said he had acquired federal funds of RM500,000, for the next phase.

Additionally, he said focus would also be given to other areas facing the same problem as Kampung Rampangi during the monsoon season.

On related matter, the federal minister said he had been visiting several project sites in Santubong and Tabuan areas over the past several weeks, to ensure that the works would reach completion according to schedule.

“What’s important for the people is for them to continue voting for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next election, so that we can continue after the new mandate takes place,” he said.
