Govt committed to improving people’s welfare – Sibuti MP
MIRI: The government will continue to improve its services to the people including those that involve social and religious development.
Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang said the setting-up of the Unit for other Religions (Unifor) to address religious issues faced by non-Muslims in the state was meant to safeguard the existing harmony in the state.
“The state government has given its commitment to continue to address the people’s needs.
“Even the people’s representatives are giving their full commitment in this by giving financial aid under their Minor Rural Project (MRP) for religious purposes,” he said when officiating at St Barnabas’ Parish Christmas Open House at Holy Trinity Church in Lambir yesterday.

Later, he announced an MRP grant of RM5,000 to the St Barnabas’ Parish of Taman Tunku here.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau was also present.
He said although Christians form a minority in this country, they are nevertheless treated with equal respect.
“If there is anyone or organisation trying to create disunity among us, telling us Christians that we are not being taken care of by the government, that is a complete lie.
“We are given the freedom to worship.”
Dennis also pledged a similar government grant to the Parish of St Barnabas’ Taman Tunku.
Two political secretaries of the chief minister Julani Moktari and Sarkawi Suhaili, Fr Stanley Bunsing, Pemanca Wilson Siang Lim, Cr Aries Leong and the event organising chairman Jefri Ngau were also present at the function.
