-

KUCHING: Civic Centre Skateboarding Club (CISKA) patron and Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has urged participants at the Grand Finale CISKA Skateboarding League (CSL) 2017 yesterday to shoot for the stars.

“Go national, then go international. I want to see a Sarawakian skateboarder in the Olympics,” he told them when launching the finale yesterday at Civic Centre Skate Park.

With long-standing sports in the Olympics full of stiff competition, skateboarding could very well be the ticket into the big time for a local skateboarder, he added.

Also present was CISKA president Mohamad Faraok Tufail Mahmud.

The Grand Final CSL League 2017 is the culmination of monthly leagues held all over Kuching since January.

They were styled on international championship formats and aimed to uncover talent from amongst youngsters in Sarawak to represent Malaysia at the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan.

The winner of the Grand Final CSL League 2017 will be sent for intensive training to prepare for the international level.

The event was supported by Sanyan Wood Industries Sdn Bhd, Demak Laut and Tupong Service Centres, High Wealth Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Alwi, Maestro Swiss Trading Sdn Bhd, Homer Skateshop, Lim Kok Wing Institute of Creative Technology Borneo Campus, and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.

CISKA is Sarawak’s first skateboarding club, registered under the Youth and Sports Ministry.
