IKBN offers Malaysian Skills Certificate Level 4 this year
MIRI: National Youth Skills Institute ( IKBN) Miri is to offer Malaysian Skills Certificate ( SKM) Level 4 this year.
IKBN Miri director Fauzi Ariffin said for a start IKBN Miri is going to offer Diploma in Automotive in July.
“Currently IKBN Miri offers Malaysia Skill Certificate Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 for courses available at the institute. Miri would be the first among IKBN in Sarawak and Sabah as currently they are only available at national state institutes in the Peninsula,” he revealed at the launch of ‘ Minggu Paradigma’ to orientate new trainees here yesterday.
With SKM Level 4 certification to be offered in IKBN Miri, the people ( especially students and their parents) should cast aside any doubts on the quality and standard of skills training courses offered.
Fauzi said reports and studies reveal a 90 per cent rate of trainees landing a job after graduating.
“Apart from meeting the demand for skilled and trained manpower, the institute and Ministry of Youth and Sports include ‘ touch point’ – a community programme where trainees are involved in activities such as gotong royong with the community to broaden their outlook, and prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of the future,” he added.
Orientation week was launched by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin who is also IKBN Miri training adviser.
He called on the institute to collaborate with industry players to meet the need for skills and trained manpower.
“As parents, we must support and encourage our children who are good with their hands rather than academics.
“Don’t underestimate skills training that may enable more earnings compared to academic qualifications,” Lee said.
