Fire victims receive aid from Nanta, Jamit

KAPIT: Victims of a fire that razed a house along Jalan Nyawai here on Dec 29 last year received personal donations from Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Developmen­t Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is Kapit Member of Parliament, and Bukit Goram assemblyma­n Jefferson Jamit Unyat on Tuesday.

The duo contribute­d RM1,000 each to the three affected families along with school bags for the five school- going children of the families.

On hand to deliver the donations to the families was Nanta’s Special Affairs officer Ambrose Abong Bugek in a simple ceremony attended by PBB Kapit Service Centre officers Alexon Nila and Cohnam Amos, Kapit Jasa officer Mohd Matan Yok and Tuai Rumah Adam Minggat.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the families were John Taman, Sambas Budit and Jelawai Andi.

The house that was razed was rented by the three families who had come down to town in order to allow their children to have better access to education and easy access to health care.

Immediatel­y after the fire outbreak, Kapit Welfare Department office provided food assistance to 21 fi re victims.

Malaysian Red Crescent Kapit District, Kapit Lions Club and SUPP Kapit branch donated blankets, clothes and food items (cooking oil, rice, sugar, cooking utensils, canned goods, instant noodles, coffee and sugar) to the fi re victims.
