Cops probe ‘save strays’ social media campaign

-

KUCHING: The state Veterinary Services Department ( DVS) has lodged a police report in Padawan over several ill- intentioned comments posted on social media that champion the move to save stray dogs.

In confirming this, state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Dato Dev Kumar said police had viewed the comments on Facebook and found some of them to be criminal in nature.

“A Facebook account holder suggests killing the personnel involved in the operation to catch stray dogs, while another suggests a road block to release captured strays and also some suggest extreme measures to prevent the operation ( from running),” he said in the statement yesterday.

Dev stressed that police were not amused by the threats thrown against public servants entrusted to do their jobs in accordance with the law. On this, he assured all that police would be investigating the case under ‘criminal intimidation’.

In this regard, he said police would also be calling these particular Facebook account holders up for questioning.

“At the same time, we are warning those that may be inclined to prevent the veterinary services personnel from carrying out their duties. Any attempt to use force or cause harm or prevent public servants from carrying out their duties is an offence and the person( s) responsible will be arrested, investigated and be recommended to be charged in court,” he warned.
