KUCHING: Outgoing ConsulGeneral of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Fu Jijun contributed to the success of four major development projects in the state.

During his two-year tenure, Xian LONGi Silicon Materials Corp invested more than RM1 billion in its Samajaya Free Industrial Zone operations.

“Now they have completed the second phase and there will be a third phase. The whole investment is more than RM1 billion,” Fu told journalists after paying a courtesy call on Minister of International Trade and E- Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh yesterday.

He said the second project was the Guangdong farming collaboration between China and Sarawak.

“They are here to plant rubber trees, process them and export to China. The project in Saratok is going on very well.”

The third project was a collaboration between the state government and four big groups in Beijing to explore Sarawak’s tourism potential, where the signing of the memorandum of understanding was witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“It is to explore tourism resources and they will bring more Chinese tourists to Sarawak,” said Fu.

He said the fourth project involved steel business collaboration in Samalaju, Bintulu.

“The whole investment is US$ 3 billion and the company has got their land in Bintulu. Now the valuation is going on and I hope to see more progress under the leadership of the Chief Minister and Dato Sri Wong,” he added.

Fu said Sarawak and China would likely have further business collaboration in future given the state government’s commitment to transform the economy.

Wong said Fu had achieved excellent results as a diplomat.

“During the short tenure of about two years, he really helped to establish a good relationship between Sarawak and China,” he said.

“We are happy that His Excellency, Mr Fu Jijun, has been promoted to become the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to a country in Africa. It’s a promotion and we feel happy for him.

“I know he deserves this big promotion and he will continue to contribute to the People’s Republic of China and also Africa.”
