Call to upgrade Lawas to a division

-

LAWAS: Lawas District should be upgraded to division status due to its potential physical and economic transformation once the Pan Borneo Highway is completed, said former Limbang Resident Datu Maria Hasman.

During a farewell and appreciation party for him and welcoming ceremony for new Lawas Resident Ahmad Denny Ahmad Fauzi on Wednesday, Maria called for full support and cooperation for his successor to steer the overall development of Limbang Division.

He said the strategic location and economic development in Lawas District warranted an administrative centre here as it is separated from Limbang District by Temburong District, Brunei.

Maria said there will be continuity of development in Lawas District under Deputy Chief Minister and Bukit Sari assemblyman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as well as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Co- operatives and Consumerism and Lawas Member of Parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong.

For Limbang District, he said Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Gumbang, and Limbang Member of Parliament Hasbi Habibollah would also ensure development continues.

Maria served 41 years in the state civil service and was Limbang Resident for 13 years.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Denny served as divisional engineer for the Department of Irrigation and Drainage ( DID) in Limbang from 1991 to 1999 when he was transferred to the headquarters and seconded to the Ministry of Rural Development.

In 2015, he was promoted to DID assistant director and later promoted to serve in the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development. He began his duties as Limbang Resident on Tuesday.
