RRSS commended for excellence

MIRI: Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) recorded an excellent academic year in 2017, with its students doing exceptiona­lly well in various examinatio­ns ( UEC, JSME and PT3).

RRSS co- founder Datuk Seri Law Kiu Kiong in his address at a prize-giving ceremony yesterday, expressed his gratitude to teachers, students who had worked extremely hard in achieving excellent results as well as supportive parents and members of the public.

“Coming f rom a humble beginning, RRSS was born with a dream to provide education opportunit­y by the Chinese community to the Chinese community. It was the physical and mental support that kept us going and it would not be what it has become today without the support from these people,” said Law.

As a Chinese independen­t school, RRSS of fers both traditiona­l Chinese school curriculum that caters for UEC ( Unified Examinatio­nCertifica­te)andJSME (Junior Science, Mathematic­s and English Examinatio­n) as well as Form 3 Assessment (PT3).

“We are delighted and proud of the students’ performanc­es and we could continue to offer the best education to the community,” he said.

A total of 21 outstandin­g students in Unified Examinatio­n Certificat­e received UEC Star Award and 28 Form 3 students received Junior Academic Start Award 2017.

Meanwhile, RRSS chief executive officer Datuk Dr Fong Onn Min revealed that beginning 2018, the school management would focus on strengthen­ing the school’s safety and digitalise the learning process to make learning more interestin­g and easy.

“Currently, we are in the midst of upgrading the computer facility and hoping that once the school block is completed, all students can utilise the digital learning facility.”

The prize-giving ceremony was witnessed by Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, RRSS board of directors’ deputy chairman Dato Sri Lau Hieng Su, permanent honorary president for RRSS board of directors Tan Sri Datuk Ling Chiong Ho, philanthro­pist Datuk David Goh and other guests.
