Charitable bodies donate 100 bags of rice to old folk’s home
KUCHING: Kuching Heng Ann Association and Kuching Heng Ann Benevolent Association jointly donated 100 packs of rice to Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng yesterday.
The two bodies also hosted a luncheon for 27 residents of the welfare home, where they gave away angpows to the residents during the activity held ahead the Lunar New Year, which will fall this Feb 16.
Kuching Heng Ann Benevolent Association president Ho Kim Chui said both the communitybased organisations ( CBOs) had been keeping up with their efforts in caring for the ageing residents of the home for years.
“This is one of our annual activities towards preserving a caring society by showing our care for the residents of Hun Nam Siang Tng. We do not want them to feel neglected as the Lunar New Year is approaching,” he spoke at the charity event in Hun Nam Siang Tng off Jalan Sekama here.
Ho pledged that the associations would continue reaching out to the less-fortunate members of society.
He also called upon individuals and private corporations to play their part in helping the underprivileged and the needy.

“Engage little chats with the senior citizens, or show them that you care for them, is more than enough to make them feel that they are part of the society.
“Everyone should do their bit when it comes to preserving a caring society for all.”
Meanwhile, Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng president Tay Boon Sin thanked the associations for their kind contributions over the years, adding that the home would need all the help that it could get in order to provide residents an environment more conducive to living.
“At the moment, Hun Nam Siang Tng has 27 residents, 15 of whom are men while the rest are women. We have nine staff members to keep the home running.”
Tay said Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng would not be able to help the needy individuals and families without regular donations from many parties, adding that the home aims to provide quality care and services to its residents, and strives to continue its charity efforts for many more years to come.
“We help all those in need, irrespective of race and religion. And we thank our generous donors who have made this possible.”
Kuching Heng Ann Association president Michael Teo and Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng vice president Chung Miang Poh were also present at the occasion.
