LIMBANG: A lecturer here was conned out of RM100,000 after investing in a company which had promised him lucrative returns and overseas holidays.

The victim, who is from Sabah, had been approached by a director of the company, who allegedly has a ‘Dato’ title, in June last year to be a partner for the implementation of several projects.

District police chief Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai, who confirmed receiving a report on the matter, said the complainant claimed he was promised monthly returns of between 18 and 20 per cent over the course of 10 years, as well as trips abroad.

Mohd Bukhori said the lecturer became uneasy when he failed to receive his promised returns and decided to report the matter to the police for investigation.

“The case is being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property,” he added.

In a separate case, police arrested a local youth over the sale of illegal lottery during an operation in Limbang town.

The 18-year- old suspect was nabbed last Saturday around 2.30pm following a tip- off from the public.

Police seized RM100 in cash, a mobile phone and related paraphernalia, and are investigating the teen under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
