First City University College gives back to society through charity bazaar

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Christmas is often associated with the season of giving.

To spread the spirit of sharing and giving, First City University College’s ( First City UC) Student Affairs and Services Department ( SASD) organised a charity bazaar on behalf of Pertubuhan Anak Yatim Mary Kuala Lumpur.

The charity bazaar, encompassing pre-loved items donated by the First City UC community, was a major hit among students and staff.

“We are delighted to inform that the proceeds from the charity bazaar were used to buy school supplies and bedding items for the underprivileged children of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary KL,” said SASD head Florence Kuek through a press statement yesterday.

The charity bazaar was supported by many, including the wife of First City Corporation director, Puan Sri Luan Teo, who baked marble cakes and donated a generous portion of items to the orphanage.

The owner of the orphanage, Malar Mathew, was elated that the children will benefit enormously from the donated items.

“The children are really happy to receive help from First City UC as now they have new school supplies to start their academic journey with,” said Malar.

As a strong advocate of giving back to society, First City UC has identified Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary KL (formerly known as Sanctuary Care Centre) as one of the orphanages to support since 2013.

The orphanage, which houses about 80 children aged between three to 19 years old, also engages in other activities by providing spiritual direction, counseling and encouragement to those who are emotionally hurt.

Over the years, First City UC’s staff and students also engaged in activities which benefited the Bandar Utama community.

One such activity was to design the model for BU2 Resident Association ( BURA2) guard house which resulted in BURA 2 being recognised as a guarded community, benefiting the residents in terms of security and safety.

Activities such as these do not only mould First City UC students to be industry-ready for the job market, but also imbibe them with a sense of humanity and belonging to a larger community.

On top of that, First City UC provides the best learning experience for its students through its state- of-the- art teaching and learning facilities.

With its well qualified and experienced teaching force, the institution provides a wholesome education journey for its students, where First City UC graduates are hired right after their graduation and, in many instances, even before graduation.

Registration is open for the Jan 2018 intake for a full range of disciplines in the field of Computing, Design & Built Environment, Engineering, Business Studies, Mass Communication and Hospitality & Tourism Management. Earlybird waivers, scholarships and incentives are available.

Students can call First City UC’s marketing teams for queries from 8.30am to 6pm (weekdays) and 10am to 4pm (weekends), excluding public holidays.

Students will be able to check out First City UC’s new campus facilities and meet its academic staff members.
