Grants for associatio­n to build house for Islamic studies

MIRI: Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus announced a grant of RM30,000 to Persatuan Imam Bahagian Miri, Sarawak ( PIBMS) yesterday.

The grant was for the building of a ‘ pondok ilmu’, or house for Islamic studies, which is under constructi­on on a piece of land situated at Mile 8, Miri- Bintulu Road in Lambir.

“Once completed, it will help boost religious activities, especially those involving youths,” said Rosey while officiatin­g at the fund raising sale organised by Persatuan Imam Bahagian Miri at Piasau Jaya Phase II.

Miri City Council ( MCC) mayor Adam Yii, Persatuan Imam Bahagian Miri chairman Ali Abdul Rahman and Penghulu Samion Gani were also present.

According to Ali, the ‘ pondok ilmu’ house for Islamic studies is now about 80 per cent complete, with more funds needed to complete it.

“Once completed, this house would be able to cater to Muslim children in and outside Miri to study and gain knowledge of Islam,” he disclosed.

According to Ali, PIBMS recently formed a sub- committe for fundraisin­g and that its first activity was the organising of a charity sale.

Mayor Adam Yii also promised to assist in widening the road leading to the house.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament of Sibuti Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang also contribute­d RM30,000 towards the constructi­on of the building.

Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting also handed over his contributi­on of RM20,000 to the associatio­n.
