Grants for association to build house for Islamic studies
MIRI: Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus announced a grant of RM30,000 to Persatuan Imam Bahagian Miri, Sarawak ( PIBMS) yesterday.
The grant was for the building of a ‘ pondok ilmu’, or house for Islamic studies, which is under construction on a piece of land situated at Mile 8, Miri- Bintulu Road in Lambir.
“Once completed, it will help boost religious activities, especially those involving youths,” said Rosey while officiating at the fund raising sale organised by Persatuan Imam Bahagian Miri at Piasau Jaya Phase II.
Miri City Council ( MCC) mayor Adam Yii, Persatuan Imam Bahagian Miri chairman Ali Abdul Rahman and Penghulu Samion Gani were also present.
According to Ali, the ‘ pondok ilmu’ house for Islamic studies is now about 80 per cent complete, with more funds needed to complete it.
“Once completed, this house would be able to cater to Muslim children in and outside Miri to study and gain knowledge of Islam,” he disclosed.
According to Ali, PIBMS recently formed a sub- committe for fundraising and that its first activity was the organising of a charity sale.
Mayor Adam Yii also promised to assist in widening the road leading to the house.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament of Sibuti Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang also contributed RM30,000 towards the construction of the building.
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting also handed over his contribution of RM20,000 to the association.
