SUPP Youth raring to go for 14th general election

-

SIBU: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party ( SUPP) Youth Central Executive Committee is ready to give full support to the party’s candidates contesting in the coming 14th general election (GE14).

Its chairman Michael Tiang said the youth central also supported the party central’s resolution to reject Barisan Nasional ( BN) direct candidate.

“And we stand firm that Sibu and Lanang parliamentary seats shall belong to SUPP simply because the party is a component of Barisan Nasional.

“This is in line with BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who clearly stated on Jan 3 in the BN Supreme Council Meeting that all seats are exclusively allocated for BN component parties only,” he told a press conference after chairing the 16th SUPP Youth Central Executive Committee meeting here on Saturday.

Tiang, who is also a political secretary to the Chief Minister, said the youth central committee also urged the party central to consider nominating more candidates from the youth section for the election. He said his side was also ready to work together with their BN component parties’ youth counterparts to ensure a big victory for BN in the coming GE14.

Meanwhile, addressing the meeting, Tiang urged his comrades to renew their mindset as a central leader rather than as just a branch youth chief.

“Basically all of us are from different branches. When we become branch leader, normally we take care of local, domestic issues and well-being of the local branches.

“But as a central leader, we have to look further and wider and cover the whole party. We need to equip ourselves with higher mentality as a central youth leader to be future party leaders,” he said.

Touching on the theme of the meeting ‘Creating opportunities for the youth’, Tiang said the opportunities were for the youth to be future leaders, entrepreneurship and to unravel their talent and ability as leaders. He encouraged the youth delegates to participate in various activities and programmes organised.

“In the past, we only come to the party’s youth central once in three years to vote for a new central executive committee. After voting, we go separate ways and there was no participation thereafter.”

For this term, Tiang pointed out the party’s youth central committee has listed seven bureaus and two units for all youth delegates to play a role in.

The seven bureaus are digital economy; small and medium enterprises; modern agriculture; tourism; education; sports, culture and arts; and political study, while the two units are research and data; and new media and cyber.
