Penguang urges rural villagers to give solid support to BN in GE14

MARUDI: The people here are urged to give solid support to Barisan Nasional in the coming 14th general election to ensure that BN candidates win with bigger majorities.

“Bigger majorities mean that the voices of the people are stronger and louder so that the government will listen to you better when you apply for developmen­t projects,” said Assistant Minister for Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil at the launching ceremony of a village road at Rumah Cr Suring Jelian, at Sg Bain, Tinjar Baram last Saturday.

He also advised the people to remain united and not be influenced by the empty promises of opposition parties.

Dr Penguang also reminded community leaders to consistent­ly improve and upgrade their knowledge by attending courses and seminars so that they could administer their villages and longhouses more efficientl­y and effectivel­y.

The assistant minister also urged every longhouse to form volunteer firefighti­ng groups to help as front liners in the event of fires.

At the function, Dr Penguang presented government grants of RM25,000 to the security and developmen­t committee (JKKK) of Rumah Suring , RM25,000 to JKKK Rumah Douglas Bungan, Sg Bain Baru; JKKK Rumah Jemat, Sg Sebatu ( RM20,000); parentteac­her associatio­n of SK Sg Bain (RM10,000) and RM13,000 to Rumah Pong Imbap, Sungai Ampun Tinjar. He also presented books from the Tun Jugah Foundation to SK Sg Bain. Among those present were political secretary to the chief minister Alexander Asing Sadai, Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai, Dr Penguang’s wife Datin Monica Ukong Jaya and community leaders.
