Potential SUPP candidate for Lanang says momentum swinging his way

-

SIBU: One of SUPP’s potential candidates for the Lanang parliamentary seat, Joseph Chieng, says he is gaining momentum in the constituency by mingling with the local community.

Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, Chieng claims he had been receiving feedback and requests daily, adding in any one day, he would receive at least five to 10 calls from the public on street lamps, welfare of the people and other needs to improve their livelihood.

“I have responded positively with my team, and this has helped build community bond among us.” Apart from that, Chieng, who is also the youth chief of SUPP Bukit Assek branch, said he had also taken his branch leaders to set up mobile community service counters at various public places.

“Our service motto is, instead of the people coming to us for help, we are going to them to find out what help they need.” Chieng said his branch had also set up joint community service counters with SUPP Dudong branch to boost the community spirit.

“We have set up these counters at various public-frequented places like in shopping malls and coffee shops. Where there are people, there will be SUPP community services.” He said for the whole of last year, they had set up such counters in at least 20 different places.

“We have built trust and confidence in working with the people.” Chieng said they were also taking to the social media platforms such as WhatApps, WeChat, Facebook and others. Giving a breakdown on their services, he said 73 per cent were matters related to infrastructure improvement, rubbish management (12 per cent), street lighting (eight per cent) and citizenship applications (seven per cent).

He said they had been involved in such community services for years, and they knew which authorities to approach for all the specific cases.
