Traditional Chinese medicine part of culture, must be preserved – Temenggong

-

KUCHING: Traditional Chinese medicine is part of the Chinese culture that ought to be preserved, said Temenggong Tan Joo Phoi.

He said the ancestors of the Chinese community had depended on traditional medicine for treatment as well as staying healthy.

“As the descendants, we shall realise the importance of traditional Chinese medicine and preserve the knowledge for generations to come,” he said when opening a free medical consultation session held at CityOne Megamall here yesterday.

The one- day event was jointly organised by the Kuching Division Chinese Community Leaders Association and Kuching Traditional and Holistic Natural Medicine Association.

Tan said there were many Chinese physicians who practised the art in the country.

He also pointed out that the government had been holding dialogues with traditional Chinese medicine practitioners across the country to enhance regulations in the industry.

According to Tan, everyone is responsible for their own health and only with healthy body and mind could they do their daily job well.

He was glad to note that the Kuching Traditional and Holistic Natural Medicine Association had been holding free consultation sessions to promote traditional Chinese medicine.

It is learnt that Chinese physicians from not just Malaysia but also China, Taiwan and Brunei offered their services at the sessions.

Tan thus commended the noble efforts of these Chinese physicians, who play a role in promoting a healthy lifestyle among the local community.

Pemanca Ko Wai Neng and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party ( SUPP) deputy secretary- general Sih Hua Tong were among those present.
