-

TAIPING: Suspecting his wife of having an affair, a labourer flew into a rage and allegedly beat up the woman unconscious with his bare hands at their home in Matang near here on Thursday night.

Noor Waheedah Abd Wahid, 38, who sustained brain haemorrhage apart from head and body injuries was sent to the Taiping Hospital.

When the housewife’s condition worsened, she was transferred to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh where she succumbed to her injuries about 9.30pm Saturday night.

The victim’s 40-year-old husband who had lodged a report on the assault at the Kuala Sepetang police station, a day after the incident, is under police custody to facilitate investigations into the murder.

Taiping police chief ACP Mohamad Taib said initial investigations revealed the suspect had beaten up his wife about 11pm at the family home on Thursday.

In a statement yesterday, he said Noor Waheedah, a mother of four, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment for suspected brain haemorrhage at the hospital.

He said a post-mortem revealed that the victim died due to blunt force trauma.

It is learnt the alleged assault was triggered when the suspect attempted to seize his wife’s mobile phone before a struggle ensued, leading to the man repeatedly punching and hitting the woman.

The couple’s four children aged between five and 15 were at home during the time of the incident. — Bernama
