No problem delivering the food aid, says Civil Defence Force
MIRI: Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) refuted a report by an online English national daily yesterday (Jan 18) that several agencies and volunteers deploying emergency food aid to 13 flood hit rural settlements in northern Sarawak had encountered massive logistic problems.
Disappointed over the report, APM Miri officer Capt ( PA) Mohd Hazle Shah Abdul Hamid described the news as “incorrect” and “untrue”, adding that the allegation was based on speculation.
“The report is inaccurate, that is, utterly untrue. Based on the image, the food deployment was sent to Rh Akai in Ulu Suai Niah and all agencies involved did not encounter any problem during the delivery,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday (Jan 18).
Mohd Hazle said five APM Miri personnel led by second lieutenant Azuan Kamin were deployed to Rh Akai in Ulu Suai at 8.02am to conduct the food aid deployment on Tuesday (Jan 16).
The team’s first stop was Batu Niah community hall where they arrived at 9.56am to prepare necessary aid to the longhouse which ended at 10.20am.
They continued the operation to Rh Akai and arrived at the longhouse at 3.35pm. Their operation ended at 6.50pm.
“A total of 140 packs of rice and 10 packs of baby milk were delivered to the f lood- affected residents of Rh Akai, Ulu Suai,” he added.
Personnel from the state Welfare Department (JKM) were also involved in the operation.
