MIRI: Local event organisers here have been told to approach and work together with Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) and airline companies to sustain and for effective running of their events, particularly international and regional ones.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin gave this advice when responding to a request from La Danza Fitness & Dance Studio and National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance ( Namlifa) Miri branch for his support and assistance to their respective events when they paid him a courtesy call recently.

Following the overwhelming response and success of the inaugural Miri AfroLatin Fiesta last year, La Danza Fitness & Dance Studio will be holding the second edition of the dance festival from March 2 to 4 at Meritz Hotel here this year.

According to Dr Safrina Othman, organiser of the event, the event gathers international dance artistes from United States, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Luxembourg, Kenya and Australia, among others. She said apart from showcasing Afro Latin dance there will also be dance workshop by the artistes.

Meanwhile, Namlifa is bidding to be the host for ManLIFPS Convention to be held from January 10 to 11 in 2019 which is expected to be attended by around 1,000 delegates from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.

Advising both organisers to work together with BCCK and Sarawak Tourism Board, Lee also recommended them to collaborate with airline companies for sponsorship and for special packages to fly in the participants to Miri.

He believed that with these incentives more people would come to participate in the event.
