Hyprex fire extinguishers for longhouses

SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP) Community Service Board Sibu will launch a pilot project on Hyprex fire extinguishers at two longhouses here after the Chinese New Year.

Its chairman Dato Andrew Wong said one of the longhouses is Rh Lidwina in Bawang Assan. He did not name the other longhouse in Dudong area.

“We will do it on a trial basis. The plan is that every door will have one fire extinguisher.

“We will conduct a full demonstration, putting out fire using the ( Hyprex) fire extinguisher. The beauty of this fire extinguisher is that even a three-year- old child can use it,” he said at the RS1 mobile service counter in Kampung Jeriah here recently.

The Hyprex fire extinguisher uses Swiss technology.

The conventional fire extinguisher needs annual servicing, but Hyprex fire extinguisher is more cost effective as it will last for three years.

“After three years, it needs to be checked to determine its usability. Its maximum shelf life is five years but it has to undergo check after three years,” Wong said.

Wong added that the board has identified longhouses without a fire hydrant, and would equip them with Hyprex fire extinguishers.

“We’ll also request the Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) to check the fire hydrants at those longhouses provided with such equipment.”

The board has set aside RM1 million under its RS1 for firefighting education and equipment, especially for settlements in rural areas.

The RS1 mobile team will be at Tiong Hua Road from 9am till noon tomorrow.

Their last stopover will be at Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku on Jan 21.
