ALOR SETAR: Pokok Sena Member of Parliament, Datuk Mahfuz Omar was present at the Kedah Police Contingent Headquarters ( IPK) to give his statement in connection with allegations he insulted the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah during a political talk.

He arrived with his lawyer Mohd Fikri Abd Rahman and several supporters at 10.15am before entering the Kedah IPK compound at 10.30am.

Earlier Mahfuz said he was willing to give his statement and cooperate fully with the police concerning a police report lodged in Pahang.

“I am present to give my statement accordingly and here I wish to state that I don’t have any intention to stir the wrath of the palace because the statement made before this was not meant to insult anyone.

“If the statement offended the Pahang Palace, I apologise. But when I listen back to my speech, what I raised was the issue of age factor not an obstacle to anyone to be a leader or chief,” he said.

On Wednesday, the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah expressed his anger and felt offended with the action of Mahfuz, who allegedly insulted the Sultan of Pahang during his political talk besides breaching the Malay code of ethics.

Recently Mahfuz’s video of his public talk with Pakatan Harapan commented on the ability of Tun Dr Mahathir to lead the country, at aged 92, and compared him to the ailing Sultan Ahmad Shah who remained as the Sultan of Pahang.

Subsequently many quarters have lodged a police report on Mahfuz’s action.

Meanwhile Kedah CID chief SAC Mior Farid Al Atrash Wahid, in a statement, said the investigation was conducted under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 ( CMA 1998). — Bernama
