Annual ‘ tilawah’ serves to uphold sanctity of Quran, says Sibu Jais officer

SIBU: Hasnizan Hasbullah and Saamah Abus were named the ‘ Best Qari’ (male Quran reciter) and ‘Best Qariah’ (female Quran reciter), respective­ly, at the Tilawah Al- Quran Sibu Zone 2, which took place at Masjid Al- Muhajirin in Kampung Usaha Jaya, Sentosa Salim here recently.

They took home prizes in cash and trophy.

Prizes were given away by state Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) Sibu officer Shamsuddin Basir

The ‘ tilawah’ ( Quran recital event) was jointly organised by Masjid Al-Muhajirin Management Committee, Kampung Usaha Jaya Committee and Sibu Division Islamic Celebratio­n Permanent Committee.

In the ‘qari’ category, Mohd Zain Hasbullah and Hata Kiprawi placed respective second and third, while in the ‘qariah’ category , the respective top two runners- up were Telahah Kapa and Asrinah Mahidi.

There were 17 ‘qari’ and seven ‘qariah’ taking part in the event.

According to Shamsuddin, the annual event signifies the government’s commitment in upholding the teachings in the Quran, as well as encouragin­g more Muslims to read and understand this Holy Book of Islam.

“Every year, the government through Jais provides the opportunit­y to the mosque and surau committees across Sibu Division to organise this event together.

“Moreover, it is also part of our efforts to ‘ enliven’ the environmen­t of mosques and suraus further, with the help from their congregati­ons,” he said.
