‘Sarjan Faiz’ gets 66 months’ jail, 5 strokes over crime spree

RAUB: A labourer was sentenced to 66 months’ jail and five strokes of the rotan by the magistrates’ court here yesterday after he pleaded guilty to five charges, including impersonating a policeman in two separate cases at the end of 2017 and in 2016.

Mohd Faizal Sinorcho, 31, better known as ‘Sarjan Faiz’, admitted guilt when the charges were read out to him before Magistrate Khairuddin Anhar Mahmud.

According to the first two charges, Mohd Faizal was accused of abducting a 17-year- old girl with the intention of secretly and wrongfully confining her. He had impersonated a police sergeant to carry out the abduction.

He committed the offences at a house in a village in Sungai Ruan near here at about 11am on Dec 27 last year.

He was charged under Section 365 of the Penal Code for the abduction offence which provides jail up to seven years and fine. As for posing as a bogus policeman, he was charged under Section 170 of the same code which provides for jail up to two years or fine or both.

As for the third charge, Mohd Faizal, who was not represented, was accused of being in possession of an imitation STI pistol without a valid permit at noon the same day near a motorcycle shop here.

He was charged under Section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960 (Akta 206) which carries jail up to one year or fine up to RM5,000 or both.

In a separate case, the accused was charged with impersonating Insp Khuzair of the Raub police headquarters to cheat elderly woman Fatimah Sulaiman, 64.

He had demanded that the victim deposit RM500 into the bank account of V Aravintan, failing which he would open an investigation paper on her son relating to drug abuse.

He committed the offence at 6.30pm on Dec 9, 2016. The place where the offence was committed was not stated. He was charged under Section 420 and 170 of the Penal Code (cheating and impersonation) and was liable to be jailed up to 10 years with whipping and could also be fined.

Prosecuting officer Mohd Faizal Shamsir urged the court to mete out a stiff punishment saying that the accused’s actions had caused public alarm.

The court ordered him to serve 48 months in jail for the three offences under the first case, starting from the date of his arrest on Jan 6. For the second case, the court ordered him to serve 18 months’ jail after completing the 48 months’ and be whipped five times. — Bernama
