Eight teams to compete in MSS Miri Rugby Tournament

KUCHING: Eight teams have signed up for the MSS Miri Rugby Tournament that will be held at Curtin University Miri from Jan 24 to 25.

They are SMK Lutong, SMK Merbau, SMK Riam, SM Sains Mi ri , SMK Taman Tunku, SMK Luar Bandar Miri, Kolej Vokasional Miri and SMK Pujut.

The tournament is for boys aged 17 and under and is the platform to select the best players for the inter- division tournament.

Meanwhile, 13 children aged between seven and 17 participat­ed in a “Get into Rugby” session for the Ant Education School at the P100 rugby pitch last Friday.

According to Miri chief coach Landale Cranfield, the children enjoyed the session from 8.45am to 10.30am although it was wet.

They were later joined by Miri Division rugby developmen­t officer Sylvia Alexander Lian, state head coach Nacani Seniu and developmen­t coach Embran L Mohd Ali.

He and the g roup wer e particular­ly impressed by the skills of the 11- year- old Willy Sim.

Cranfield reminded that all youngsters and students are welcome for free coaching at P100 Pitch on Saturday mornings, to continue playing, learning rugby ski l ls and most importantl­y having fun.

He said the P100 Pitch is booked on Thursday evenings for Touch Rugby while Friday evenings and Saturday mornings are for rugby coaching.

On every Sunday afternoon, there is a game day at Curtin University for all, starting at 4pm.

Tenby Internatio­nal School CCA rugby training had started on Monday at 3pm at the Tenby School Field and currently 19 have signed up.
