Perodua eyes 209,000 unit sales in 2018
KUALA LUMPUR: Local car manufacturer, Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) expects sales to increase by two per cent to 209,000 units this year from 204,900 units last year.
President and chief executive officer, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said the growth would be driven mainly by the sales of Myvi and Axia models.
“We expect more registrations moving forward,” he told reporters at the company’s annual review yesterday.
He said the latest edition of Myvi, launched in November last year, had garnered over 36,000 bookings and over 11,000 units had been delivered.
Out of the total bookings made for Myvi, he said 85 per cent were for the 1.5-litre variants and 15 per cent for 1.3-litre variants.
Perodua was also expected to lead the market with a 35 per cent market share this year, he said, adding production was projected to rise eight per cent to 215,000 units.
Aminar Rashid said the company was also looking at increasing its after-sales business further to meet the expected increase in the number of customers.
“This will be done by upgrading current facilities to have more bays and by further improving our people’s competencies.
“This will further reduce our customers’ waiting time while at the same time increase intakes,” he said, adding that service revenue was expected to increase three per cent this year.
Additionally, service intakes is expected to grow by 1.9 per cent to 2.14 million this year and parts and accessories revenue is forecast to grow by two per cent.
On performance in 2017, he said total sales declined slightly from 207,100 recorded in 2016 but market share remained at around 35 per cent.
Service revenue increased 12 per cent, parts and accessories revenue rose seven per cent, service intakes went up three per cent but production decreased six per cent to 200,000.
Export slipped 20 per cent to 3,766 units from 4,696 units in the previous year due to competition in Indonesia, he said.
